Global: transparency


We ask the world’s population whether they agree or disagree with the following statement: “In my country, our laws are clear and easy to understand.”   Use the map below to see current results (% of the population who agree).

Overall, 61% of the world’s population agree that “In my country, our laws are clear and easy to understand”

However, this varies significantly by continent. Asian (71%)populations have the highest ratings.  The lowest ratings are found among the populations of South America (35%).

As with our other indicators, the biggest differences in the feedback are driven by income. 73% of high income respondents agree that “In my country, our laws are clear and easy to understand.” In contrast, this falls to 57% for respondents from lower income brackets.

There are some smaller differences by gender.  Males (63%) are slightly more likely to agree that “our laws are clear and easy to understand” than females (59%).  The difference is relatively small (4%pts) but it is statistically significant.
